All students interested in the Expressive Arts Therapy Program at Appalachian State University must apply through The Graduate School. The Graduate School processes the applications and sends them to the Department of Human Development and Psychological Counseling for review.

"Box of Self" by Anna Monlezun-ThibodeauxStudents may study expressive arts therapy by being accepted into the Master of Arts Degree in Community Counseling and choosing the Expressive Arts Therapy concentration or by being accepted into another of the counseling degree programs and then applying for the Graduate Certificate in Expressive Arts Therapy. Students who currently hold a master's degree in counseling or related mental health field or a master's degree in an arts therapy field may apply directly for the Graduate Certificate in Expressive Arts Therapy.
