Administrative Council Committee
Chair: Charles Duke
The Administrative Council formulates, reviews, and recommends procedures and policies related to the administration of the college.

Appalachian/Public School Partnership
Chair: Linda McCalister
The primary purpose of the Appalachian State University/Public School Partnership is to form a strong collaborative relationship between the Reich College of Education, College of Arts and Science, and other members of the partnership (Alexander Alleghany, Ashe, Avery Burke, Caldwell, Watauga and Wilkes County Schools and the Northwest Regional Service Association Center).
Coordinating Council
Chair: Betty Terrell
Reviews potential projects and activities for the Partnership and makes recommendations to the Governing Board.
Council on Teacher Education
Chair: Charles Duke
The Council on Teacher Education has as its main function the role of analyzing and evaluating professional education curricula and recommending policies and procedures for strengthening the professional education program. All recommendations are made to the Dean of the Reich College of Education.

Diversity Committee
Chair: Charles Duke
To encourage a climate of understanding and acceptance of differences within the RCOE and across campus; to identify ways of increasing the diversity among students, faculty and staff; to review policies and procedures within the RCOE to insure diversity is addressed wherever possible; and, to sponsor activities which encourage and assist faculty members to integrate diversity issues into courses and curricula.
Doctoral Program Policy Committee
Chair: Jim Killacky
The Program Policy Committee duties include student admissions policy implementation, scheduling basic operations, and program evaluation. The Committee chaired by the Director of the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership is composed of faculty teaching in the program.
Faculty/Staff Forum
Chair: Charles Duke
The RCOE Forum will meet at least twice annually for the purpose of discussion and/or dissemination of information concerning internal and external issues affecting the college.
Faculty Professional Development
Chair: Charles Duke
To foster professional development within the college, promote scholarly activity, with attention to representation of outstanding faculty/staff achievement. Among the activities of the committee are the following:
- Promoting dialogue within the college devoted to aspects of quality in teaching and learning
- Presenting forums, workshops, and seminars that offer opportunities for faculty staff, and students to explore issues relevant to education
- Providing opportunities for faculty to acquire and apply technical skills to the solution of educational problems
Developing criteria for awards to recognize faculty for outstanding performance in teaching research/scholarship, mentoring, and/or service, to recognize staff for outstanding performance, and for carrying out the selection process annually; sponsoring an annual all-college reception for the recipients.
Field Advisory Council
Chair: Robin Groce
The Council acts as an advisory resource to the College regarding the College's effectiveness in providing quality teachers, counselors, and administrators for the public schools.
Graduate Studies Committee
Chair: Doris Jenkins
The Graduate Studies Committee is charged with monitoring admission standards and procedures, advisement policies and practices, and retention in all graduate programs of the college. Among the responsibilities of the GSC are the following:
- Discuss issues relating to graduate education in the RCOE
- Collect and interpret admission and retention data
- Review and recommend as appropriate changes in admission standards
- Develop and implement procedures for responding to student appeals for admission and/or retention
- Insure adherence to all appropriate standards relating to admission and retention
- Assist, where appropriate, with preparation of accreditation documents(i.e., SDPI/NCATE)
- Disseminate to faculty information related to graduate admissions retention, and advisement within the college
- Develop data collection system for tracking of students in graduate programs
International Studies and Activities Committee
Chair: Charles Duke
The committee will promote activities within the college which will foster a greater awareness of a global perspective among faculty, staff, and students, encourage a strong international component within curricula, and recommend policies and procedures for initiating and for responding to proposals related to international programs, exchanges students teaching/internship experiences, etc. The committee will coordinate its efforts with departments within the RCOE the college's Diversity Committee and the University International Studies Council. A member of the committee will be appointed by the Dean to represent the RCOE on the University International Studies council.
Partnership Governing Board
Chair: Jeff Cox
Establishes the general policies and procedures for governing the activities of the Partnership within the seven counties which comprise the partnership. (Watauga, Ashe, Alexander, Avery, Wilkes, Allegheny, Caldwell)
RCOE Dean's Advancement Board
Chair: Maria Vernon
The council is charged with advising the Dean of the RCOE on matters relating to the well-being of the RCOE including fund raising public issues, and legislation; the council is also charged with identifying opportunities which will enhance the programs and mission of the college council members are also expected to serve as ambassadors of the RCOE informing the public about the mission of the college and recruiting quality students wherever possible.
RCOE Space Committee

The committee has been charged with determining requirements and hearing requests for the newly planned College of Education Building.
RCOE Staff Council
Chair: Lynn Church
The council serves as a forum for all staff employees within the RCOE to address issues, policies and procedures which impact upon their duties and working conditions.
Scholarship Committee
Chair: Doris Jenkins
The committee monitors all college scholarship awards made available through contributions from the Appalachian Foundation or other sources, recommends policies and procedures for awarding scholarships screen applicants and selects recipients based upon criteria established within each award or by the college. The committee also assists with planning and conducting the annual Honors Day for the college.
Technology Advisory Committee
Chair: John Spagnolo
This Committee is charged with coordinating the acquisition and application of technologies of instruction in the RCOE and with recommending to the Dean of the RCOE changes, developments, and plans it believes will promote the most effective and efficient uses of technology within the college.
Undergraduate Studies Committee
Chair: Doris Jenkins
The committee is charged with monitoring admission standards and procedures, advisement policies and practices, and retention in all undergraduate programs of the college, especially those pertaining to teacher education. Among the responsibilities of the committee are the following:
- Collect and interpret admission and retention data
- Review and update student undergraduate handbook
- Review and recommend, as appropriate, changes in admission standards
- Develop and implement procedures for responding to student appeals for admission and/or retention
- Insure adherence to all appropriate standards relating to admission and retention in undergraduate studies
- Make recommendations relating to policy and procedures
- Disseminate to faculty information related to admissions, retention, and advisement within the college
- Establish procedures for faculty referral of students who may be experiencing difficulty in the college's programs or displaying inappropriate behavior
- Serve as RCOE Grade Appeal Committee
