Re-visioning Teacher Education - State Board of Education is requiring all teacher education programs to meet new standards. The plan for how ASU will meet the standards must be completed by June 30, 2009. [more]
An Education of a Lifetime - Laurie Williamson received a Fulbright Scholar Award to conduct research and teach graduate counseling courses at the University of Balamand in Lebanon. [more]

Faculty Exchange in Karlsruhe, Germany - Dr. Linda Veltze is a professor of Library Science at Appalachian State University and is on a faculty exchange in Germany this spring semester. The students were able to communicate with Dr. Veltze, before class meetings and through mid March after class meetings through the use of the Moodle Course Management System operated through ASULearn. Considine a finalist for a Cable's Leaders in Learning Award - David Considine, a professor of instructional technology and media studies, is one of four finalists for Cable in the Classroom's 2008 Cable's Leaders in Learning Award. [more]
The first recipient of the Legacy of a Lifetime Scholarship - Paul Stoltzfus, the first recipient of the Legacy of a Lifetime Scholarship, received his award at a reception honoring the scholarship established by Dr. Renee' Evans. [more]
Appalachian will host a Duke TIP Scholar Weekend - Appalachian State University will host a Duke TIP (Talent Identification Program) Scholar Weekend April 5-6 for academically gifted 7th-12th graders. [more]
Speech-language pathologist is top EC teacher - Melissa Carmichael York, a speech-language pathologist for Thomasville City Schools, was recently named the Thomasville City Schools' Exceptional Children's Teacher of Excellence. [more]
Educators learn of academic expectations of college-bound high school graduates - More than 45 educators from across the region gathered at ASU recently to talk about academic expectations and student success in college. [more]
Annual Scholarship Reception for Student Recipients and Donors - The Reich College of Education will host its annual recognition program and reception for undergraduate scholarship recipients and our generous donors on Friday, April 25, 2008 at 3:30 pm in conjunction with Honors Day. Program begins at 3:30 pm at the Valborg Theatre.
Qatar University and educational reform - Dr. Gary Moorman will spend four months at Qatar University working with the reading and writing components of the university's curriculm and undergraduate degrees in education. [more]
Cherokee Reservation Visit - Students and teachers from the Cherokee Reservation recently visited campus to interact with RCOE classes providing insights about Cherokee culture and traditions; Dr. Sandra Oldedorf (C&I) was the faculty host. [more]
