Mountaineer Summer Reading Program 2009
The Reich College of Education proudly salutes the kick off of the third annual Mountaineer Summer Reading Program. This collaborative effort between Appalachian State University Athletics and the Reich College of Education supports and encourages literacy among students in first through eighth grades in the ASU Public School Partnership schools.
During the 2008 program a total of fifty partnership schools completed the program. Collectively 1,013 students read a total of 39,131 books.
Top level readers, their parents, their principals, and their media center coordinators attended the October 25th Education Day football game. They were treated to a tour of the locker room and a tailgate party. During halftime each county’s top readers and their principals were featured on the fifty yard line, along with Mr. Charlie Cobb, Director of ASU athletics, and Dr. Charles Duke, Dean of the Reich College of Education.
