Clear Creek teacher to retire after 40 years- The Wednesday before Thanksgiving in 1970, Hambright graduated from Appalachian with a degree in education. The next Monday she started teaching at Clear Creek, just outside Mint Hill. [more]
McCrary named teacher of the year for Surry County- Katie McCrary, a seventh grade math teacher at Central Middle School in Surry County and an Appalachian graduate, is this year's recipient of the award. [more]

- Connie E. Carringer of Boone, NC has been awarded the 2009 NBCC Foundation (NBCCF) Rural Scholarship. The NBCCF rural scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in a CACREP-accredited counseling program who commit to serving in rural and underserved areas after graduation. [more]
