Mountaineer Summer Reading Program 2010
The Mountaineer Summer Reading Program is proud to announce its fourth season. Reich College of Education Partnership schools, grades K-7, will have the opportunity to sign up to participate in this collaborative effort between Appalachian State Athletics and the Reich College of Education.
The purpose of this program is to encourage literacy among students; since its inception in 2007, 14,022 students have read 95,322 books. Each student who began the program received a Mountaineer Summer Reader bookmark. During the fall of 2009, the top three readers in each grade level in each school earned a voucher to an ASU basketball game. The top three readers in each county participated in Education Day, scoring a tour of the locker room, a tailgate party, and fifty yard line recognition during halftime at the ASU vs Chattanooga football game. The top media center from each county was awarded $300 for their media center, and the top class in each county earned a pizza party. For photos of the game and the media center visits please see the slide shows below.
