Welcome New Staff Members: Fall 2023

Welcome new staff members to Appalachian State University's Reich College of Education (RCOE). Read on to learn about everyone and why they joined the staff at App State.

Stewie Myers ’22 

Child Development, Literacy, and Special Education - Administrative Support Specialist

The largest part of Myers’ job focuses on financial administration for the Lucy Brock Child Development Lab Program as well as other programs within the Department of Child Development, Literacy, and Special Education.

Myers earned a B.A. in global studies from Appalachian State University.

Why Appalachian? “I graduated from Appalachian and love Boone, so it seemed a natural fit to start my career here.”

Myers is looking forward to the fall weather in Boone. In her free time, Myers enjoys writing, reading, cooking, playing bass guitar, painting, and yoga.

Kaitlyn Reda ’23 

Child Development, Literacy, and Special Education -
Program Coordinator for the Scholars with Diverse Abilities Program

Reda’s responsibilities include advising first-year students through goal setting and support, teaching special education courses, and assisting with program development.

Reda earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama from New York University and a Master of Social Work from Appalachian State University.

Reda has worked with Scholars with Diverse Abilities Program for the past two years as a graduate teaching assistant, intern, and graduate assistant. Prior to returning to school for her master’s degree, Reda was a freelance worker as an actor and a musician.

Why Appalachian? “After living in NYC for almost ten years, I needed to be in nature!”

Professionally, Reda is looking forward to the professional development opportunities the university has to offer. Personally, Reda is looking forward to getting married!

In her free time, Reda enjoys hiking, crocheting, and reading.

Anne Donadio ’87 ’96 

Office of Field Experiences - Early Field Experience Coordinator

Donadio earned a B.S. in elementary education, a master’s degree in early childhood education, and an Ed.S. in curriculum and supervision - all from Appalachian State University. She is also a National Board Certified Teacher and an early childhood generalist. 

Prior to Appalachian, Donadio worked as the field supervisor for App State education majors enrolled in internships and student teaching. She also taught grades kindergarten through fourth in Watauga County Schools for 33 years.

Why Appalachian? “Being a native of Boone, North Carolina, and attending Appalachian State University, I have always wanted to work in the Reich College of Education so I can share my love of public education with others.”

Donadio is excited about being a part of App State's excellent faculty and staff! “I am most excited about helping place students in the schools for their field experiences and helping them have a successful experience,” said Donadio. 

In her free time, Donadio enjoys spending time outdoors and loves traveling to National Parks. Donadio is a member of the National Ski Patrol and has been an Outdoor Emergency Care Instructor for 30 years.

Cynthia Townsend ’89 ’07 

Office of Field Experiences - Intern Placement Coordinator

As the intern placement coordinator, Townsend collaborates with human resource directors to secure placements for methods-based and professional core field experiences in the College of Education. 

Townsend earned a B.S. in elementary education and an M.A. in middle school education with a concentration in math from Appalachian State University. 

Prior to Appalachian, Townsend was a classroom teacher at Watauga County Schools and an adjunct faculty member at Lees-McRae College. 

Why Appalachian? “As an App State College of Education alumna, I know the quality of training future educators receive, and I want to be a part of continuing that tradition.”

Townsend is most excited about developing relationships with course instructors and school districts to facilitate quality field experiences for future educators. 

Townsend is a big Disney fan and participates in the runDisney events every year.
